Welcome & Our House Tour

Welcome to Social Hall! I’m so glad you’re here. This blog is my creative outlet – where I’ll share house progress, décor ideas, DIY projects, recipes, fashion finds, party ideas, and more. Hopefully you follow me and find some inspiration or helpful ideas.

So…first post. Let’s begin with a house tour, shall we?

My husband, Ben, and I moved into our 2 story colonial home in Northville, MI in July. The home is in good shape, it just needs some updates and personalization. Here’s a photo tour so you can see what we’re working with. All of these photos are from the MLS listing.

Not the best photos. But behind the odd angles and the eyesores (4 different types of flooring on the main level??) we saw the potential in this place. In fact, I saw enough to put an offer on it without seeing it in person. The market in the western Detroit suburbs is booming right now. We had already lost 1 house in a bidding war, and we were not about to lose another one. So I stalked the listings hourly for the next few days until I saw this one. The house popped online at 2:00, I sent my husband to meet the realtor and tour the house at 5:00, and we had an offer written by 8:00. Crazy, right?  They accepted our offer the next day and away we went!

The previous owners had made some updates since the home was built in 1979, but there’s still a long way to go. The first room we’re going to tackle is the family room. This is where we spend the majority of our time hanging out after work, so we want this room to be our reprieve from whatever chaos is surrounding us in the rest of our lives. We made some progress in that regard this weekend, so I’ll share those pics tomorrow.

Happy Monday!
